Two 'commit' suicide in city

Two persons including a housewife allegedly committed suicide at Shah Ali and Ramna Park in the city yesterday. Aklima Khatun, 22, a garments worker, hanged herself with a scarf from the ceiling of her residence at Uttar Bishil around 9:00am, said Officer-in-Charge (OC) Anisur Rahman of Shah Ali Police Station. Her husband, Mohammad Russel, a mason, has been absconding since the incident, the OC said. Neighbours told police that the couple had a quarrel over Russel's negligence to work on Sunday night, he said. Next day, Russel went out around 9:00am and, on returning back an hour later, found his wife's hanging body, he added. Meanwhile, the body of an unidentified man, in pant and shirt, aged about 30 years, was found hanging from the branch of a Bakul tree inside Ramna Park at 2:00am yesterday, said OC Rafiqul Islam of Ramna Police Station. Being informed by the park's security guards, police recovered the body and sent it to Dhaka Medical College morgue, he said. Morgue sources said the man committed suicide.
