BCL activist held for stabbing cop
Police yesterday arrested a Bangladesh Chhatra League (BCL) activist of Rajshahi University unit in connection with a case filed after a policeman was stabbed and another humiliated on the campus on Saturday.
Police raided Bangabandhu Hall around 2:00am and arrested Abdus Salam, a fourth-year student of management department.
When this correspondent requested for the case details, Officer-in-Charge Akbar Hossain of Motihar Police Station refused to elaborate.
On Saturday's incident, witnesses said some BCL activists stabbed Constable Abdur Rashid on the hands and left shoulder over the excuse that he made “derogatory comments on the prime minister”. He was later admitted to Police Lines Hospital.
They then forced Assistant Sub-Inspector Abul Bashar of Motihar Police Station to hold his ears and repeatedly squat and stand up.
On contact, RU BCL unit President Ahmed Ali confirmed the incident.
