War Crimes Trial
Call to form more tribunals
Veteran Awami League (AL) leader Tofail Ahmed yesterday called for setting up more tribunals to complete war crimes trial within this year.
“Trial of war criminals has to be completed within this year, if necessary, by setting up more tribunals and assigning more qualified persons,” said Tofail Ahmed at discussion in the city.
“We must try those who committed crimes against humanity, took away sons from fathers and husbands from our sisters,” said Tofail also a member of advisory council of ruling AL.
He made the call amid people's demand to expedite the trial of war criminals who had committed crimes against humanity during liberation war in 1971.
Bangladesh Krishak League organised the discussion meeting to commemorate late AL leader Abdur Razzak at Jatiya Press Club with its President Mirza Abdul Jalil in the chair.
AL Acting General Secretary Mahbubul Alam Hanif said Opposition Leader in the parliament Khaleda Zia never belief in the spirit of the liberation war. So, she came out to save the war criminals.
“But no matter how many conspiracies you hatch, you (Khaleda) will not be able to foil the war crimes trial,” said Hanif.
Refuting Khaleda Zia's recent comment on secret killing, Hanif claimed that incident of secret killing in the country started in 1975 when Ziaur Rahman took power after the assassination of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
He also blamed BNP for bringing arms in the student politics and for the emergence of extremism in the country.
Hanif said the demise of Abdur Razzak is not only a loss for the Awami League but for the whole nation.
AL's Women Affairs Secretary Fazilatunnesa Indira, Krishak League General Secretary Motahar Hossain Molla also spoke.
