Miscreants cut down 15 Jhau (tamarisk) trees at a private recreational centre, Progoti Park, at Chalk Enayetpur village in Bagha upazila early yesterday. Rezwanul Haq, caretaker of the park, said a number of unidentified persons cut down the trees sometimes between 12:30am and 300am. He said the miscreants left the park at around 3:00am when night guard Jamat Ali raised an alarm sensing the presence of the miscreants. They also damaged a vegetable field near the park, he said. Feroz Ahmed, owner of the park, filed a case with Bagha Police Station in this connection. He said his father Abdul Jalil Mondol developed the park in 1996 and now it gets hundreds of visitors a day. Ali Ahmed Hashmi, OC of the police station, said police have started investigating the incident.
