Road crashes kill 11, injure 10
Eleven people were killed and 10 others injured in separate road accidents in Dhaka, Rangpur, Natore, Jhenidah and Brahmanbaria in last two days.
Staff correspondent reports: A motorcyclist and a rickshaw-puller were killed in separate road accidents in the city yesterday.
The deceased were Al Amin, 32, a staff of Titas Gas Transmission and Distribution Company Ltd, and Abdul Jabbar, 50, a rickshaw puller.
Al Amin was killed on the spot when a Farmgate-bound bus hit his motorcycle and crashed him from behind near Agargaon Bus Stand in the city.
Abdul Jabbar was killed on the spot when an unidentified vehicle hit his rickshaw from behind in Khilgaon Pukurpar area in the city.
The bodies were sent to Dhaka Medical College morgue for autopsy, police said.
Our Rangpur correspondent adds: Three people were killed and at least 10 injured when a bus of Nishi Paribahan fell into a roadside ditch while its driver lost his control over the steering due to poor visibility caused by dense fog on the Dhaka-Rangpur highway in Kalabagan area of Pirganj upazila in Rangpur yesterday.
The identity of the deceased could not be known immediately after the accident. The bodies were sent to Rangpur Medical College morgue for autopsy.
The injured were admitted to Pirganj Upazila Health Complex and Rangpur Medical College Hospital.
In another road accident, a veterinary surgeon was killed on the spot when a brick laden tractor hit the surgeon's motorcycle at Badarganj upazila in Rangpur on Tuesday noon.
The deceased was Dr Monjurul Haque Khan, 45, a veterinary surgeon of Badarganj Brac Chilling Centre.
Our Natore correspondent says: Two betel-leaf traders were killed on the spot when a Dhaka-bound betel-leaf laden truck fell into a roadside ditch after driver of the vehicle lost his control over the steering near Armari Beel area in Boraigram upazila.
The deceased were Ranjit Kumar Saha, 45, of Bauli Kandra village of Shibaloy upazila in Manikganj and Jibon Kumar Saha, 60, of village Utholy of the same upazila.
Police seized the truck while its driver and helper managed to flee the scene.
Meanwhile, in another accident, a minor girl was killed when a human huller hit her while she was playing beside the Natore-Bagatipara road in Singhardaha area of Sadar upazila on Tuesday evening.
The deceased was Beethi Khatun, 06, daughter of Selim Hossain, of village Narayanpur Ekdala of Natore Sadar upazila.
Our Jhenidah correspondent adds: A college student was killed on the spot when a bus hit her while he was crossing the Jhenidah-Chuadanga road at Sadhuhati intersection of Sadar upazila in Jhenidah.
This deceased was Mintu Mia, 18, son of Omar Ali Mondol, of Krishnapur village of Harinakundo upazila. He was a first year student of Dakbangla Abdur Rauf Degree College.
Our Brahmanbaria correspondent says: One man was killed on the spot when a bus crashed him while he was crossing the Comilla-Sylhet highway at Monkosair village of Kasba upazila yesterday.
The deceased was Shawkat Ali, 30, of Monkosair village of the upazila.
