Road crashes kill 5, injure 5
Five people, including a minor girl, were killed and five others injured in separate road accidents in Narail, Narayanganj and Sylhet yesterday.
Our Narail correspondent reports: A three-year old child was killed on the spot when a speedy truck crashed her while she was trying to cross the Lohagara-Jessore road at Bosupotti village of Lohagara upazila yesterday.
The deceased was Bristy Khanom, daughter of Kamal Sheikh, of Bosupotti village of Kashipur union of the upazila.
The body was sent to Narail Sadar Hospital for autopsy.
Our Narayanganj correspondent adds: At least one man was killed on the spot and three others were injured when a Dhaka-bound pickup van lost its control and fell into a roadside ditch on the Dhaka-Sylhet highway at Araihazar upazila yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Jakir Hossain, 28, driver of the pickup van, of Raipur of Chandpur.
The injured were admitted to different local hospitals.
Staff correspondent from Sylhet says: Three people were killed and two injured when a truck collided head-on with an auto rickshaw and fell into Dholai river after breaking the railing of Katakhal-Borni bridge on the Sylhet-Companiganj road at Companiganj upazila yesterday.
Of the deceased, two were identified as Zamir Uddin, 35, of village Noagaon of Jamalganj upazila and Foyzul Islam, 32, of village Chatibahar of Chhatak upazila in Sunamganj. Another 25-year old man could not be identified immediately, police said.
The injured were admitted to the Sylhet MAG Osmani Medical College Hospital in critical condition.
