Worker dies in 13-storey fall
A construction worker died after falling from the 13th floor of a 14-storey under-construction building in the city's Pallabi yesterday morning.
The victim, Chiranjeeb Sarkar, 25, son of one Dipen Sarkar, hailed from Chapainawabganj sadar upazila.
Shahabuddin Khalifa, officer-in-charge of Pallabi Police Station, said Chiranjeeb, who was ill while working at the building in DOHS area of Mirpur-12, fell on ground around 8:30am. Critically hurt and bleeding, Chiranjeeb was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where doctors declared him dead, he added.
A fellow of the victim, Ziaul Haq, said Chiranjeeb was watering some piled up bricks on the edge of the floor. Suddenly some bricks got loose and started falling. To save his feet, he stepped back and fell off the floor. Chiranjeeb had joined the work five days back, he said.
