One person to die for killing wife

A court here yesterday sentenced a man to death for killing his wife in 2004. The convict is Kaiyum Sheikh, 40, son of Waresh Sheikh of Kalakhali village of Pirojpur. Md Rezaul Karim, Judge of Chittagong Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal No-1, also fined him Tk 50,000. According to prosecution, Kaiyum tortured and strangled his wife Tazrin Begum for dowry at his rented house at Chandgaon in the port city on April 8, 2004. Victim's uncle Belayet Sarkar filed a murder case with Chandgaon Police Station while the investigation officer (IO) submitted charge sheet accusing Kaiyum on July 13, 2004. The charge was framed on March 19, 2005 while the court gave the verdict yesterday after hearing 10 witnesses, said public prosecutor Chandan Kumar Talukder.
