Three motorcyclists beat up a police sergeant at the city's Bornali crossing yesterday. Sergeant Abu Sadek, 28, of Traffic Division under Rajshahi Metropolitan Police (RMP), was admitted to Rajshahi Medical College and Hospital with injuries on his hands and legs, said a doctor at the hospital. Sadek told reporters that he stopped the three motorcyclists at the city's Bornali crossing at around 3:30pm as they were travelling together on a motorcycle without any number-plate and helmets. The motorcyclists started quarrelling with him and at a stage left the place. Moments later, they re-appeared with cricket stamps and started beating him. They fled the scene as the locals came forward to rescue the sergeant. Khan M Shahriar, officer-in-charge (investigation) of Boalia Police Station, said police had picked up over 20 people and had been continuing raids to arrest the culprits.
