The Detective Branch of police (DB) yesterday pressed charges against six people in a case filed for submitting forged documents to the High Court in order to obtain bail for killers of the couple slain in Gulshan. The charge sheeted accused include a Supreme Court lawyer, Mohammad Moniruzzaman, while the others are Mohiuddin Azad Rabbi, Faruque Ahmed, Abul Kashem, Halema Begum and Dwigendra Kumar Chanda. Monir and Faruque are now in jail custody while the other four are on bail. DB Inspector Fazlur Rahman, also the investigation officer (IO) of the case, submitted the charge sheet showing 23 people as prosecution witnesses to the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's Court of Dhaka. The IO dropped names of Advocate Monir Hossain and Mizanur Rahman from the charge sheet as their involvement with the incidents was not found. Two gunmen--Rubel and Mithun-- allegedly shot dead Sadequr Rahman, general secretary of Bangladesh Nursery Owners' Association, and his wife Romana Nargis, on March 24, 2010 at their residence at Kalachandpur in the capital's Gulshan, as they resisted Rubel from forcibly taking away their daughter, Iti. Following the incident, police arrested the duo along with several others. Later the IO pressed charges against Rubel, Mithun, Altaf Hossain Altu and Rabbi. On January 11, 2011, Rubel and Mithun fled on being released on bail from the HC. Fake documents were submitted to secure their bail. The HC on February 9, cancelled the bail order, directed police to arrest the accused and ordered the lawyers to explain within a week their conduct over securing the bail by means of forgery.
