Missing girl's body found in tank
The decomposed body of a girl child, who was missing since two months, was recovered from the sewer tank of her neighbour's house in Puthia upazila of the district yesterday.
The victim was Prarthona Sarker, 10, daughter of Parimal Sarker of the upazila's Shilmaria Bodopara village. She was a class-IV student of Kashiapur Government Primary School.
Police traced her body following the confessional statement of Ratan Kumar Mondol, 25, an arrested accused in the case, said Sub-Inspector Sajjad Hossain of Puthia Police Station, also the investigation officer of the case.
In primary investigation, police suspected that the girl was raped and killed in her neighbour's house before her body was dumped into the sewer, he said.
Prarthona went missing from the courtyard of her house on November 12 last year.
Her father filed a general diary first and, later, an abduction case with the police accusing Nazmul Haque Galib, his neighbour's son, and Ratan in this connection.
Police arrested Ratan and took him on a two-day remand on January 8. During interrogation, he disclosed that Galib murdered the girl and dumped her into the sewer of his house.
Ratan also told the police that he and Galib sold Prarthona's earrings to a jewellery shop at Tk 2,900.
Meantime, police arrested Galib's father Abul Kalam Azad, mother Nasima Begum and sister Kamrunnahar Keya in this connection while Galib went into hiding.
