3 Biman officials suspended
Biman Bangladesh Airlines yesterday suspended three officials for not picking up a High Court judge on a flight on time.
However, on discovery of the judge's not being on board, the plane was stopped immediately, and he was escorted aboard.
The suspended officials are Firoz Kabir, Mahbubur Rahman and Akhtar Hossain -- all from Biman's ground handling department.
Sources said the HC judge went to the airport at around 5:00pm on Tuesday to catch a flight to Chittagong at 7:00pm.
Accompanied by the three officials, he was duly taken care of and escorted to the VIP lounge.
The flight, BG 021, was ready to depart after an hour's delay and was pushed back from the bay without the judge being on board.
But as soon as the judge's absence came to the notice of the officials, the plane was stopped and he was put on board under special arrangements.
"The officials made a gross mistake. Let alone a High Court judge, showing negligence to any passenger is a serious slackness on their part," a director of the national flag carrier said, wishing anonymity.
