Jamaat-Shibir Attack on Police
Pistol yet to be recovered
Law enforcers are yet to recover the pistol, loaded with eight bullets, which Jamaat-Shibir activists snatched from a traffic inspector after attacking him near Fakirapool Petrol Pump in the city on Thursday.
Three of the activists arrested after the attack that day were taken on a five-day remand yesterday in connection with two cases filed against six named and 500 unknown people.
“If the arrestees name their accomplices during the remand, we will add those in the case,” said Dhaka Metropolitan Police Motijheel division Deputy Commissioner Anwar Hossain, adding that they are trying to identify the attackers from video footage and photos taken during the incident.
They are also conducting drives to recover the pistol, he added.
The traffic inspector, Abul Bashar, and a constable, Sanwar Hossain, of Motijheel Police Station were injured in the attack by the activists who were parading Motijheel area protesting Ghulam Azam's arrest.
The injured were admitted to Apollo Hospitals with head injuries.
Leaders of Workers Party of Bangladesh and Bangladesh Jubo Maitree, over written statements yesterday, condemned the attack and demanded immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of the attackers.
Meanwhile, BSS reports that police arrested five Jamaat activists for their alleged involvement in anarchic activities at Savar Bazar Bus Stand on Dhaka-Aricha Highway last evening.
UNB reports that police arrested two Jamaat leaders including its district unit nayeb-e-ameer Moulana Rezaul Karim from Doshmoni area in Bagerhat town yesterday morning for allegedly planning subversive activities.
