15 shops, 2 houses gutted
Two incidents of fire gutted at least 15 shops and two houses in Changaon and Fatikchhari in the port city yesterday.
A fire fighter was injured while dousing flames in Chandgaon. He was admitted to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Fire brigade sources said the Chandgaon fire started from an electric short circuit at a house around 3:50am and soon spread to an adjacent house, a drug store, and two tea stalls.
On information, fire fighters from Chandanpura and Kalurghat units rushed to the spot and doused the blaze around one and a half hours later.
The loss was estimated at around Tk 5 lakh.
Another fire broke out at Shantir Hat under Fatikchhari Police Station and gutted 11 shops, causing an estimated loss of TK 6 lakh, according to fire sources.
The fire originated around 6:00am from an oven of a tea stall.
Ramgar fire brigade unit doused the flames after three and half hours of efforts.
