'Punish killers'
Dhaka Sub-Editors Council forms a human chain before Jatiya Press Club in the city yesterday demanding the arrest of and exemplary punishment to the murderers of the journalist couple, Sagar Sarowar and his wife Meherun Runi.
Journalists, teachers and students of Rajshahi University yesterday demanded immediate exemplary punishment to the killers of journalist couple Sagar Sarowar and Meherun Runi after proper investigation. They made the demand at a human chain programme in front of the university central library on the campus. They urged the law enforcing agencies to take immediate steps to find out the killers. Sohel Rana of daily sun, Meherul Hasan Sujon of the daily Somokal, Belal Hossain of The Financial Express, Mamun Abdul Kaium of BSS, Ershadul-ul-Bari of the daily Amar Desh, former RU pro vice-chancellor Prof KAM Shahadat Hossain, Prof Hasanat Ali and Prof Fazlul Haque spoke at the programme. Meanwhile, the leaders and activists of Nationalist Teachers' Forum, a pro-BNP organisation of the university, formed another human chain in front of the university senate building demanding immediate punishment to the killers. President of the forum Prof Afrauz Zaman Khan Chowdhury, Secretary General Fazlul Haque, and Prof Azahar Ali addressed the programme. Sagar Sarowar, a news editor of private TV channel Maasranga, and his wife Meherun Runi, a senior reporter of ATN Bangla, were killed at their apartment in the capital's West Rajabazar on Saturday.
