JU teachers demand judicial probe for Zubair murder
A teachers’ group from Jahangirnagar University (JU), who are opposing the university administration, yesterday demanded the government to form a judicial probe committee to investigate into the Zubair murder case.
Zubair Ahmed, an English department student of JU, succumbed to his injuries after he was attacked by some Bangladesh Chhatra League activists on January 9.
Prof Nasim Akhter Hossain, spokesperson of the teachers under the banner of 'Shikkhak Samaj', placed the demand along with seven others at a press conference at Dhaka Reporters' Unity in the capital.
She also demanded the government form a parliamentary probe committee to investigate the irregularities and nepotism in teachers' appointment at JU by the current administration led by Vice-Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Shariff Enamul Kabir.
The current VC has appointed 193 teachers over the last three years, she mentioned.
Other demands included the VC panel re-election and formation of probe committee to look into the current administration's role in destroying the natural atmosphere of the campus in the name of increasing profit from different commercial projects.
JU teachers' association President Prof A A Mamun and General Secretary Dr Sharif Uddin, were present among others.
