'Change attitude towards challenged people’
Society's attitude towards physically challenged people has to change to inspire these people to do something better for themselves as well as for the nation, said speakers at a seminar in Rajshahi University (RU) yesterday.
A person with physical challenges is not someone to be ashamed of as he or she can do anything if given the opportunity.
The seminar titled "Role of disabled in the development of nation: Need to change outlook" was organised by the university unit of Physically-challenged Development Foundation (PDF), a voluntary organisation for the physically challenged students.
Founder of Centre for Rehabilitation of Paralysed (CRP) a Valerie Taylor was present as the chief guest while Founding Coordinator of PDF central committee in Dhaka Mizanur Rahman Kiron presided over the programme.
Taylor said the government should come forward to ensure the rights of the physically challenged people so that they can also contribute to the country's development.
CRP Director Shafikul Islam, RU Teachers Association Secretary Shadekul Arefin Matin, Student Advisor Prof Golam Sabbir Sattar, PDF RU unit President Anisuzzaman Prince and Social Work Department Chairman Afrina Mamun were present among others.
