Mohammad Abul Kashem passes away
Language Movement veteran and freedom fighter Mohammad Abul Kashem died of cancer at a city hospital yesterday at the age of 80.
He left behind four sons, one daughter and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
Family sources said he had been suffering from liver cancer and was admitted to Health and Hope Hospital in the capital on Saturday as his condition deteriorated.
People from all walks of life paid homage to this language hero after his body was brought to the Shaheed Minar premises at Chakbazar in Sherpur district.
Later, he was buried at his family graveyard in the district following his namaz-e-janaza on Kasba Katgor Eidgah ground.
Abul Kashem was the Sherpur unit president of Bangladesh Communist Party.
Different political, social and cultural organisations and personalities expressed deep shock at his death and conveyed condolence to the bereaved family.
