Different political leaders and officials of non-government organisations issued separate statements marking the day.
BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia, in a statement, said the Language Movement in 1952 accelerated the country's War of Liberation in 1971.
Although the country is independent now, but international forces are still conspiring to continue political, cultural and economic domination over the country, she said.
"The spirit of the Language Movement will inspire us to resist any conspiracy of the dominant forces," she added.
Bangladesh Mahila Parishad President Ayesha Khanom and General Secretary Maleka Banu, in a joint statement, urged all to build resistance against human rights violators in light with the sprit of the day and demanded acceleration of the trial of war criminals.
