Eight robbers held in Bay
A patrol team of Bangladesh Coast Guard detained eight robbers in the Bay of Bengal in Maheskhali upazila on Monday night.
On a tip, the team conducted the drive around 11:30pm near Matarbari area and seized the boat used by the robbers, said Lt Commander Mohammed Yusuf, staff operation officer of Coast Guard.
The detainees were handed over to Maheskhali police yesterday, he added.
They were identified as Joynal Abedin, 45, Rahamat Ullah, 20, Mohammed Rubel, 25, Abdur Rahim, 28, Mohammed Matiur, 26, Saiful Islam, 22, Aman Ullah, 27, and Nurul Haq, 25, all hailing from Barakup area of Kudubdia upazila.
