Domestic Violence Act
'Intensify campaign to educate people'
Speakers at a discussion yesterday urged the government to increase campaign about the Domestic Violence Act (Prevention and Protest)-2010 to make women as well as people from all walks of life aware of the act.
As the women do not have enough information about the act, they are not getting benefits of it, they said.
The discussion was organised by Plan Bangladesh at Chittagong Club where Additional Divisional Commissioner of Chittagong Mohammad Nurul Islam was present as the chief guest.
Divisional Coordinator of Bangladesh National Women Lawyers Association (BNWLA) Wahida Idris presented a multimedia presentation on the act while Chittagong District Women Affairs Officer Anjana Bhattacharri was in the chair. Speakers said as the act is not familiar to the women of our country, they file domestic violence cases under different acts which makes delay to get justice.
They also said filing a case under the act will make the work easier for the law enforcers to bring the guilty under law.
