Journo flees home for 'fear of life'

A journalist in Hatibandha upazila received death threat allegedly from a local Awami League leader following publication of a report on misuse of fund for road repairing work in a newspaper on Saturday. Iliyas Bosuniya Pabon, correspondent of The Daily Destiny and local daily Juger Alo, filed a general diary (GD) with Hatibandha police station, said Sazzad Hossain, officer in-charge of the police station. Pabon, also joint secretary of Hatibandha upazila press club, on Wednesday said Alamgir Hossain Rontu, upazila unit AL joint secretary, along with his party men, numbering 10/12, attacked him at the upazila office premises on the day for publishing the report in Juger Alo. Hearing the news of filing GD, Rontu become more angry. He along with his men searched my home and other places for me, he told journalists at Hatibandha press club. He now does not stay at home for fear of life, Pabon's family members said. Rontu, cousin of a state minister, however refuted the allegation.
