Sramik Dal leader murdered
President of Moylakanda union unit Jatiyatabadi Sramik Dal was killed by criminals in Shyamganj Railway Station area in Gouripur upazila on Wednesday night.
Victim Shahadat Hossain, 35, was son of late Taleb Hossain of village Moylakanda.
Police arrested Bachchu Miah, 48, son of Abbas Ali of Moylakanda on charge of his involvement in the killing. Bachchu Miah is a maternal uncle of Shahadat.
Quoting family sources, police said that a group, numbering around six, entered the house while Shahadat was taking food at around 9pm.
The criminals picked him up and stabbed him with sharp weapons indiscriminately. Critically injured, he died on the spot.
Shahadat had a dispute over a piece of land with his maternal uncles for long which might be the reason behind the killing, said Khalilur Rahman, a sub-inspector of Gouripur police station.
