Noted singer of Chittagong MN Akhter Hossain died of cardiac arrest at Chittagong Medical College Hospital in the port city yesterday. He was 81. He left behind his wife, three sons, two daughters and a host of relatives to mourn his death. His first namaz-e-janaza was held at Agrabad CGS colony mosque premises after Maghrib prayers. He was buried at his family graveyard in his village home after second namaz-e-janaza there. Born in 1932 at Raozan in Chittagong, Akhter, noted local song composer and also a lyricist, was the first artiste who sang modern song at Kalur Ghat radio station at its inaugural ceremony in 1962. He was also the mentor of many noted local singers like Shefali Ghosh.
