The Daily Star-Robi English Fair
Students sharpen English language skills

A daylong English Language Fair was held in six schools of Bogra, Netrakona and Satkhira districts yesterday. The Daily Star and Robi jointly organised the fair to improve the proficiency of secondary school students in English. Our Bogra correspondent reports: Some 300 aspiring students of Dhunat NU Pilot High School under Dhanut upazila of the district took part in the fair held in the school. The school's Headmaster Md Moshiur Rahman inaugurated the programme. The fair began with the screening of a movie, The Lion King. Afterwards, quizzes and competitions on vocabulary, moral lessons, extempore speech and role playing and writing picture descriptions were held based on the movie. Later, prizes were distributed among the winners. The school's teachers, Md Afsar Ali, Md Kamrul Hasan and Shangkar Kumar Ghose, assistant teachers, Nur Mohammed and Sanker Kumar, and Assistant Headmaster Tofiz Uddin were present at the programme. Our correspondent from Netrakona reports: Around 900 students of Durgapur MKCM Government Pilot High School, Durgapur Government Girls' High School and PC Nol Memorial High School under Durgapur upazila of the district took part in the fair. The girls' school Headmistress Suraiya Gulshan Ara Begum inaugurated the fair at the school auditorium. The movie was also screened here, based on which the students took part in the quizzes and competitions. After distributing the prizes among the quiz and competition winners, Suraiya expressed hope that The Daily Star and Robi will continue organising such programmes to encourage students in learning English. Our correspondent from Satkhira reports: Around 150 students of Shaheed A Ahmed Government Girls' High School and Shaheed Kamel Model High School in Tala upazila of the district took part in the fair. The girls' school Headmistress Maya Rani Nath inaugurated the fair at the school's auditorium. The movie was screened here, based on which the students took part in the quizzes and competitions. Maya and English language teachers of the schools, Ratan Biswas and Tapos Kumar Haldar, distributed the prizes among the winners of the quizzes and competitions. Praising The Daily Star and Robi for holding the fair, Maya said, “Such programmes will help youngsters enrich their English language skills.” She hoped that The Daily Star and Robi would continue organising such programmes. Under English in Schools programme, the fair in also being coordinated by the education ministry while Adcomm Ltd is the creative and event partner.
