CMP gets four new zones

Apart from the previous six zones, the Chittagong Metropolitan Police has created four more zones and assigned different responsibilities to seven deputy commissioners (DCs). The addition of new zones and distribution of responsibilities are part of efforts to ensure security and tackle crimes and recent untoward incidents in the port city, DC Banaj Kumar Majumder of CMP Headquarters said yesterday. The newly created zones are Crime South, Crime West, Traffic South and Detective Branch (DB). Now CMP's 10 zones include four crime zones, two traffic zones (South and North), and the zones of DB, Public Order Management (POM), CMP Headquarters, and City Special Branch (SB). The 12 police stations, which constitute the CMP, now fall under the four crime zones with the two previous crime zones of North and Bandar. The police stations of Kotwali, Bakalia and Khulsi are under the South zone, while the North zone includes Chandgaon, Bayezid and Panchlaish police stations. The West zone will cover the police stations of Double Mooring, Halishahar, and Pahartali, while the Bandar zone is made up of Bandar, Patenga, Karnaphuli police stations. DCs assigned to the four crime zones are Mirajuddin Ahmed (North), Abdullah Hel Baki (South), Habibur Rahman (West) and Saiful Islam (Bandar). Kushum Dewan has been appointed DC traffic (North) but he will also discharge the additional duty of the traffic south. DC Monirujjaman has been given the responsibilities of City DB (both South and North), while Atikur Rahman has been appointed the DC of POM. Meanwhile, DC Banaj Kumar Majumder of CM headquarters will be on the additional charge of City SB.
