Three die as boats sink
Three people, including a college student, died and another student went missing as boats capsized in Narayanganj and Kishoreganj yesterday.
Our staff correspondent reports: A college student died and his friend went missing as a boat capsized in the Buriganga river at Pagla of Narayanganj at 5:00pm yesterday.
The body of Sajib Poddar Das, 25, a fourth year honours student of Habibullah Bahar University College of the capital was recovered around 7:00pm.
Mohammad Sajib, 26, a staff of a company went missing.
Mainuddin, station officer of Sadarghat Fire Station told The Daily Star that ten friends living at Pagla were enjoying a fun trip by the boat. The cause of the accident could not be known immediately.
Our correspondent from Kishoreganj adds: Two people drowned as an engine-boat capsized in the Nagchinni River in Karimganj upazila yesterday.
The deceased were identified as Jobeda Khatun, 45, wife of Abdus Sobhan and Abdul Kuddus, 44, hailing from different villages in the same upazila.
Police and local sources said the boat with 12 passengers on board sank in the Nagchinni River near Chamtaghat area around 8:30am due to strong current and gusty wind.
All the passengers but Jobeda and Kuddus managed to swim ashore.
