The High Court has summoned the deputy commissioner and the police superintendent of Bandarban on charge of not giving protocol to a Supreme Court judge during his visit in the district last year. In response to a writ petition, the court also issued a rule upon the government officials concerned to explain in two weeks why they should not be directed to give protocol and guard of honour to the SC judges as per Bangladesh Flag Rules 1972. The HC bench of Justice AHM Shamsuddin Choudhury Manik and Justice Jahangir Hossain Selim ordered the duo on Thursday to appear before it on May 8. The bench came up with the order and rule after hearing the petition recently filed by Human Rights and Peace for Bangladesh. Secretaries to the cabinet division, prime minister's office, president's office, ministries of law and home affairs, Inspector General of Police, SC registrar, and the DC and the SP of Bandarban have been made respondents to the rule. Petitioner's counsel Manzill Murshid told The Daily Star that the district administration of Bandarban did not give protocol and guard of honour to a judge of the Appellate Division of SC during his visit in the district last year. Manzill Murshid did not disclose the name of the judge, saying that he came to know about the allegation from the SC registrar's office. Deputy Attorney General ABM Altaf Hossain represented the government.
