'Infuse leadership quality into graduating students'
University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Prof Dr AK Azad Chowdhury yesterday underlined the need for infusing leadership quality into the graduating students so that they could lead the South Asian region.
“The huge graduating students would be able to lead the Asian region, if quality could be infused into them,” he said at a workshop here while making his concluding statement.
British Council Bangladesh and UGC jointly organised the three-day workshop on “Strengthening Leadership Capacity in Higher Education” at UGC auditorium here.
Prof Chowdhury said science, technology, innovation, aptitude, skills and knowledge and above all the leadership quality of the academicians was the key driving force of socio-economic uplift of a country.
“A leader can change the world and lead the society from their respective fields by their own capacity, skills and wisdom,” he said adding a leader could create lots of leaders to this end.
Referring to higher education, he said tertiary level education was gaining momentum in the country and the enrolment stands at almost 20 lakh. The higher education attainment was comparable to that of China, India and Indonesia, he added.
In this connection, he emphasised raising tertiary level education to the world class standard in keeping pace with the global needs in 21st century.
Prof Chowdhury highly lauded the role of British Council in strengthening leadership capacity in higher education.
