DoE fines two companies Tk 11 lakh for oil spillage
The Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday fined two companies a total of Tk 11 lakh on charge of marine pollution through oil spillage at Sitakunda.
The verdict that fined a vessel of Ocean Bd Ltd. Tk 6 lakh and Taher & Company shipyard Tk 5 lakh was issued by DoE Director (Enforcement), Mohammad Munir Chowdhury, said a press release of the department.
Earlier, on April 29 this year, a vessel, DB Chittagong, owned by Ocean Bd Ltd. capsized off the Kumira-Sitakunda coast in the face of storm, causing oil spillage, on its way after loading 2.52 lakh liters of furnace oil from a scrap vessel of Taher & Company.
