A joint team of Indian and Bangladeshi officials will visit northeastern Indian state of Tripura next month to make an on-the-spot study of infrastructure for trade including Border Haat. Tripura Industries and Commerce Minister Jiten Chowdhury yesterday said the team would visit various Land Custom Stations (LCS) and the places selected for border haats. Border haats are free trade zones where people from 10km radius of border of both the countries can sell their products. He said the state government had sent proposals to the Indian government for setting up border haats in seven places but New Delhi had approved four of them. These four places are Kamalasagar in Sipahijala district, Kamalpur in Dhalai district, Raghna in North Tripura district and Srinagar in South Tripura district. Chowdhury said the team would reach the state on June 9 and later submit a report to the governments of Bangladesh and India with their suggestions.
