New French ambassador assumes office

Newly appointed French Ambassador to Bangladesh Michel Trinquier has assumed office after presenting his credentials to President Zillur Rahman on April 19. Arriving in Dhaka on March 11, Trinquier succeeds Ambassador Charley Causeret. This assignment brings him to Bangladesh for the second time after nearly 32 years since his first overseas assignment at the French embassy in Dhaka as a junior officer during 1978-1980. Trinquier last served as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Barbados and to Trinidad and Tobago (June 2008 to February 2012). Born in 1950, Trinquier completed his Post Graduate Diploma in International Law and Bachelor of Arts (Japanese). After Dhaka, he had served at the French Embassy in Tokyo (1980-1983). He was afterwards appointed as the desk officer of Press and Information Department (1983-1985) and of Legal Directorate (International Law) (1985-1990) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in France. Trinquier also served as the Consul General in Karachi, Pakistan (1990-1993), in Osaka, Japan (1993-1997) and in Ho Chi Minh City (1997-2000). He was then appointed as the deputy director in charge of the Law of the Sea, Fisheries, Maritime Boundaries and Antarctica, Legal Directorate, Ministry of Foreign Affairs (2000-2007). He also received “Knight of the National Order of Merit”.
