Road accidents kill 3, injure 30
Three people were killed and 30 others injured in road accidents in Dhaka, Natore, Panchagarh, Satkhira and Thakurgaon on Sunday and yesterday.
Our staff correspondent reports: At least 20 people, mostly garment workers, were injured in a head-on collision between two buses in the capital's suburbs Ashulia area yesterday morning.
Vehicular movement on the Dhaka-Tangail highway remained suspended for nearly half an hour following the accident.
The accident occurred around 10:00am when a bus carrying 45 workers of Young One Hi-Tech Sportswear Limited collided head-on with a Dhaka-bound bus from Tangail at Jamgora, said Badrul Alam, officer-in-charge of Ashulia Police Station.
Twenty passengers of both the buses were injured in the accident, the OC said.
They were rushed to Enam Medical College Hospital, Savar and a local clinic in Ashulia
The workers were going to their workplace at Dhaka Export Processing Zone (DEPZ) from Tongi.
Our Correspondent from Natore reports: An elderly woman died as a motor bike hit her on Natore-Lalpur road at Boidhanathpur in Lalpur upazila around 7:00pm on Sunday.
Sarejan Begum, 60, wife of Late Golap Ali of the Boidhanathpur village of the upazila died instantly
Police arrested the bike rider, Razib Hossain, 24.
Our Thakurgaon correspondent adds: An elderly woman was killed in a road accident on Atwary-Ruhia road near Atwary Bazar area in Atwary upazila of Panchagarh on Sunday afternoon.
Victim, Monsuri Bewa, 60, of Barshalupara village of the same uapazila, used to beg in the area.
Police said the accident occurred at 4:00pm when a motor-bike hit her while crossing the road leaving her seriously injured.
Local people rushed her to Atwary Health Complex and then shifted to Thakurgaon Sadar Hospital where doctor declared her dead around 6:00pm.
Our Satkhira Correspondent adds: A motorbike rider was killed in a road accident near Moutala bazar in Kaliganj upazila on Kaliganj-Shyamnagar road yesterday.
The deceased was identified as Zahangir Hossain, 37, son of Sadar Uddin Karikar of village Nalta in Kaliganj upazila.
Quoting local people, police said while the victim on his motor bike reached near Moutala bazar, he lost control over the steering and hit a road side tree leaving him dead on the spot at about 2:00pm.
Our Thakurgaon correspondent adds: At least ten people, including a truck driver and his helper, were injured in an accident as train hit a truck at Bhatarmari Rail Crossing in Bhatarmari Farm area in Pirganj upazila yesterday.
The injured truck driver Imam Ali, 40, his helper Habib, 32, train passenger Sahadat, 27, Jaherul, 29, and Tariqul, 26, were admitted to Thakurugaon Sadar Hospital.
Local people said the accident occurred at 11:45am when a Parboti-bound local train coming from Panchagarh hit a truck when the truck passing the rail crossing.
The truck fell into the roadside crop field leaving the truck driver and his helper injured. Sahadar, Jaherul and Tariqul were seriously injured as they were travelling on the train engine while five/six others also were injured when they jumped from the train during the accident.
