100 RU teachers want withdrawal of cases against BNP leaders
Some 100 pro-BNP teachers of Rajshahi University formed a human chain before the senate building yesterday demanding withdrawal of cases filed against BNP leaders.
Accusing the government of political repression, they said the ruling party begins suing the opposition party leaders to weaken the democratic movements the latter takes to protest against the government's irregularities.
The cases are being filed one after another to restore a “one-party rule”, they said.
Demanding restoration of the caretaker government system, they alleged that the government abolished the system knowing that they will lose if a free and fair election is held under the system.
Former Islamic University vice chancellor Prof Rafiqul Islam, Prof Shamsul Alam Sarker, Dr Azahar Ali, Prof Nazrul Islam, Prof Abdur Razzaque and Prof KAM Shadat Hossain Mondal spoke at the programme.
