Prisoner dies in hospital
A prisoner of Chittagong Central Jail died in Chittagong Medical College Hospital yesterday afternoon, presumably due to complications he had developed for excessive alcohol consumption.
The deceased, Jahangir Alam, 39, of South Talbaria village under Mirsarai upazila had been sent to the prison two days ago.
Jahangir was a drug addict and was accused in two cases filed for his involvement in drug trading, said Nur Mohammad Sohel, a deputy jailer.
"He was sick when he was sent here from the court two days ago. Today (Thursday), when his physical condition became critical, we sent him to CMCH in the afternoon".
