Implement National Education Policy

Urge leaders of teacher-employee unity

Leaders of Bangladesh Teacher-Employee Unity Council, Chittagong yesterday urged the prime minister to immediately implement the National Education Policy 2010 and increase the age limit of teachers to 65 years. They also demanded providing teachers who are entitled to monthly pay order (MPO) facilities with a rational house rent, medical allowance and festival bonus. These were part of a 17-point demand they placed at a human chain before Chittagong Press Club in the port city. Stating that teaching is a noble profession and requires respect and reward from society, they threatened to go for tougher movements if the government did not implement their demands. Bangladesh College-University Teacher Association, Chittagong President SM Iqbal and General Secretary Uttam Chowdhury, Principal Md Jahangir and Abul Mansur were present with Bangladesh Teachers' Association, Chittagong President Sunil Chakrobotti in the chair.
