Work to eliminate child labour

Speakers at a seminar yesterday said it was difficult to eliminate child labour unless all the stakeholders, including government and non-government organisations, work together. They also said if the child labourers could be academically trained up, they would become most productive part both technically and economically. The seminar titled “Elimination of Risky Child Labour: Our Obligations” organised by an NGO, Ghashful, in collaboration with TDH Netherlands and Bangladesh Shishu Odhikar Forum, was held at Theatre Institute Chittagong (TIC). Chittagong City Corporation (CCC) Mayor M Monjur Alam was present as the chief guest with AK Khan Foundation official Abul Bashar in the chair. Dr Monzur Ul Amin Chowdhury, senate member of Chittagong University, presented the keynote paper. Unicef official Sayeed Milky, Ghashful General Secretary Shamiha Salim, social workers and human rights activists Gias Uddin and Mofijur Rahman, among others, addressed. The CCC mayor said first we should create public awareness against child labour and gradually we have to remove it at risky level. Syeed Milky said general people should change their mindset about the obligatory child labour.
