Yarn factory fined Tk 75 lakh
The Department of Environment (DoE) fined a composite yarn factory Tk 75 lakh on charge of polluting the river Khiro with untreated toxic liquid effluents at Bhaluka in Mymensingh yesterday.
A DoE team detected that the factory of NRG Composite Yarn Ltd had been running without environmental clearance certificate since 2010 and released 23 crore litres of untreated effluents, which went into the river causing damage to its ecology, said a press release.
The effluent treatment plant of the factory has capacity to treat three metric tonnes of waste water where as the owner illegally increased the factory's production capacity to 20 tonnes.
DoE Director (enforcement) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury handed down the penalty and realised the money from the factory owner Md Mokhlesur Rahman.
