Admit Khoka to hospital
HC asks jail authorities
The High Court (HC) yesterday directed Dhaka Central Jail authorities to admit BNP leader Sadeque Hossain Khoka to Birdem Hospital immediately for treatment.
In response to a petition, the court also issued a rule upon the government to explain in a week why Khoka should not be granted bail in the case.
Earlier on May 16, Khoka surrendered to the magistrate court in connection with a case filed for torching a vehicle near the Prime Minister's Office on April 29.
The HC bench of Justice Salma Masud Chowdhury and Justice FRM Nazmul Ahasan came up with the order and rule after hearing the bail petition filed by Khoka on May 27.
The petitioner's counsels also prayed before the court to transfer Khoka to Birdem Hospital.
Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kazal, a lawyer for Khoka, told The Daily Star that the HC has ordered Dhaka Central Jail authorities to transfer his client to Birdem Hospital.
Khoka is a diabetic who is currently suffering from high blood sugar level, he added.
Barrister Moudud Ahmed appeared for the petitioner, while Additional Attorney General MK Rahman and Deputy Attorney General Khondker Diliruzzaman represented the government.
