UK Minister Meets FM
Socio-economic dev lauded
The visiting British minister, Alistair Burt, commended the present government's achievements in establishing democracy, human rights and socio-economic development and progress in achieving the millennium development goals and tackling climate change.
The British minister for South Asia, Foreign and Commonwealth Office, arriving on a three-day visit yesterday, said this while calling on Foreign Minister Dipu Moni at the latter's office, says a foreign ministry press release.
Dipu Moni thanked the UK for continuous support and assistance extended to Bangladesh and the government, especially those rendered during the 2008 general elections, making it a success.
The duo discussed various issues of bilateral relations and human rights, modernisation of Bangladesh's electoral system and cooperation in fighting terrorism.
Burt expressed his happiness on Bangladesh's success on these issues.
Dipu Moni informed him that the government was trying its best to strengthen democracy at all levels of the state.
