Bodies of Bahrain fire victims arrive
Bodies of 10 Bangladeshi workers, who died from smoke inhalation in Bahrain last month, arrived in the capital early yesterday.
A Gulf Air flight carrying the deceased landed the Shahjalal International Airport around 4:00am, Mohsin Chowdhury, director for welfare at Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET), told The Daily Star.
The bodies were handed over to their family members around 10:00am.
The Bangladeshi workers died from smoke inhalation as a fire broke out at their rented house in East Riffa, about 30 kilometres off the Bahrain capital, Manama, on May 27.
The deceased are -- Syed Ahmed of Chandpur district, Kawsar Amir Hossain, Nuru Shamsu, Tahir, Munir Abul Kashem, Sattar Sultan Ahmed, Abul Hashem Nur Hossain, Siqqique Anwarullah, Khorshed Lal Miah and Hanif Abdul Jabbar of Comilla.
Each of the victims' families has been given Tk35, 000 instantly for completing their burials, the BMET director said.
The BMET will also give Tk 2 lakh to each of the families as compensation, he said.
