Khan Sarwar Murshid felicitated
Alokito Nogori [Enlightened City], a social and cultural organisation, arranged a daylong reception and celebration programme on the 90th birthday of eminent educationist and former ambassador Prof Khan Sarwar Murshid.
With noted academician Professor Emeritus of Dhaka University Serajul Islam Chowdhury in the chair, Prof Zillur Rahman Siddiqui was present as the chief guest at the programme in the capital's Gulshan Club on Friday, said a press release.
Dr Monmor Zafar, Dr Rafi Uddin Ahmed, Barrister M Amir-Ul Islam, noted educationist Dr Rafiqul Islam, Prof Sanat Kumar Saha, litterateur Selina Hossain, litterateur Hasnat Abdul Hye, Prof Ajoy Roy, Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Atiur Rahman, eminent jurist and constitution specialist Dr Kamal Hossian, Khan Sarwar's daughter Sharmin Murshid, Former Chief Justice Muhammad Habibur Rahman and Alokito Nogori Chief Executive Aminur Rahaman Rana also attended the programme and spoke among others, the release said.
Dr Kaiser Haq recited poem on the occasion.
A citizens' committee was formed putting noted academician Professor Emeritus Anisuzzaman as its convener to celebrate the birthday of Prof Murshid, who played a leading role to create a movement for autonomy of the country's universities, it said.
