HC summons OC, inspector again

The High Court yesterday again summoned the officer-in-charge of Narsingdi Sadar Police Station and an inspector of Detective Branch of police to appear before it on July 19 in connection with an assault on a judge by police. OC of Sadar Police Station Ahaduzzaman Asad and DB police Mamunur Rashid Mandal will have to appear before the HC bench of Justice Farid Ahmed and Justice Zafar Ahmed. The court however exempted Superintendent of Narsingdi police Khandakar Mohid Uddin from personal appearance in the case, Deputy Attorney General Motaher Hossain Saju told The Daily Star. He said that the HC yesterday further summoned the duo, as there are allegations of their involvement in the assault incident. Complying with the court's June 11 summons order, all three appeared before it yesterday and sought exemption from personal appearance in the court. Following a writ petition, the HC on June 11 also issued a rule upon the government to explain why appropriate action could not be taken against policemen responsible for assaulting judge Md Imman Ali Sheikh. A Narsingdi court on Tuesday issued arrest warrants against Mamunur Rashid Mandal and six other policemen in connection with the assault. The head clerk of Chief Judicial Magistrate's Court, filed the case with the Narsingdi court on June 11.
