National debate begins in Ctg
A nine-day debate competition began yesterday at the Theatre Institute Chittagong in the port city.
Vice Chancellor (VC) of Chittagong University Anwarul Azim Arif as the chief guest said the country's young people to change the society's mindset through presenting logic and having a sense of patriotism.
Terming debate as an art of winning word battles, Arif said youngsters must forge on ahead without forgetting Bangladesh's history.
A total of 174 students from 10 schools and 12 colleges of Chittagong, as well as 24 universities will take part in the contest.
Of the competitors, 72 are from schools, 30 from colleges, and the remaining are university students.
Robi Axiata Limited, a telecom operator, and Drishty-Chittagong, a cultural and educational organisation, jointly organised the competition “Robi-Drishty National Debate Championship”.
Somnath Ghosh, Indian assistant high commissioner in Chittagong, was present yesterday among others.
