Launch scouting in all educational instts:PM

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina asked the authorities concerned to introduce scouting in all educational institutions to expedite 'Scout' movement to transform children, juveniles, and youths into honest, disciplined, self-confident and ideal citizens. She asked the cub scouts to be prepared to participate in nation-building activities. The prime minister said this while addressing a function marking the distribution of Shapla Cub Award at her official residence Gono Bhaban yesterday. She praised the scouts for their co-operation with the government in tackling the aftermath of various natural disasters. She asked them to plant more and more saplings to protect the country's ecological balance and combat the adverse impacts of climate change. Hasina said the government had brought in positive changes in teaching methods to flourish the creative minds of the children in educational institutions. She mentioned that the literacy rate had risen markedly alongside improvement in education sector as the government was providing free textbooks and stipends to meritorious and poor students and had formed an Education Assistance Trust Fund. She said the scope and areas of acquiring knowledge in information technology had been expanded with the introduction of computer labs and multimedia classrooms in the country's educational institutes. Earlier, she distributed the award among 20 cubs out of 251 award wining cubs. She also inaugurated Cub Carnival at a simple ceremony on Gono Bhaban lawn. Primary and Mass Education Minister Dr Afsarul Ameen, President of National Scout MA Karim, National Commissioner Abul Kalam Azad, National Commissioner Programme Mezbahuddin Ahmed were present at the function.
