8 brick kilns closed, fined Tk 32 lakh
Department of Environment (DoE) yesterday closed eight brick kilns in three upazilas of Manikganj and also fined them Tk 32 lakh for running their activities without any permission of the DoE and for using cultivable land.
The brick kilns were --Mohammad Ali and Sons, Karmajibi Brick Field, KMT Bricks, ZAB Bricks, Mollah Bricks, Super Bricks, Kabita Bricks, and Sark and Co, said a press release.
The DoE found that the brick kilns were set up on 25 acres of cultivable land, depriving locals of agricultural production.
The brick fields had also posed threat to the overall environment of Manikganj district, said the DoE Director (enforcement) Mohammad Munir Chowdhury.
