8 BNP men indicted
A Dhaka court yesterday indicted eight BNP leaders and activists, including Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal and Jatiyatabadi Chhatra Dal (JCD) presidents, in a case filed on charges of vandalising and torching a vehicle in February last year.
Third Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Abu Zafar Md Kamruzzaman also fixed August 3 for starting the trial of the case.
The charges were framed against central Jubo Dal President Advocate Moazzem Hossain Alal, the JCD President Sultan Salauddin Tuku and pro-BNP activists Abul Khair Bablu, Shamsuddin Mahmud, Deen Islam, Rubel alias Selim, Mokhlesur Rahman and Sajedur Rahman.
The accused BNP leaders and activists are now on bail.
According to the case statement, the accused vandalised and torched a bus of Midway Paribahan on Satmasjid road in the capital on February 6 last year, the day before a hartal enforced by the opposition party.
The case was filed with Dhanmondi Police Station on the day.
