Fake saint arrested for raping girl
Police arrested a man, who was impersonating a saint, from Hathazari upazilla in Chittagong on Monday on charge of raping a 17-year old girl.
He had the victim living in his residence for three months in pretence of treating her psychological problems, police sources said.
The arrestee Sukanta Dey, 45, hailing from Manikchhari area in Khagrachhari district, was 'treating people' in the Chittagong district under the guise of a saint.
Police recovered the girl on Monday night from Sukanta's residence and admitted her to Chittagong Medical College Hospital.
Sukanta took advantage of the victim's illness, falsely married her and violated her, said Sub-Inspector Itu Chakma of Hathazari Police Station, also the investigation officer.
A case was filed in this connection.
