Mahfuzur Rahman summoned

Star Report
Three separate courts yesterday summoned ATN Bangla Chairman Mahfuzur Rahman on different dates for making "derogatory remarks" about the prime minister. The orders came hours after three cases were filed against him in Narail, Dinajpur, and Cox's Bazar. He was accused in a fourth case on the same allegation in Sylhet. The chief judicial magistrate's (CJM) court did not summon him but directed police to investigate the allegation. Akhlakh Ahmed Chowdhury, president of Sylhet Janoshartho Sangrakshan Committee, lodged the case. Mahfuzur Rahman, who allegedly called the PM "talkative", was summoned to Dinajpur CJM court on July 27, Narail CJM court on September 5, and Cox's Bazar Senior Judicial Magistrate's Court on August 2. The three cases were filed respectively by Advocate Md Saiful Islam, general secretary of Dinajpur Jubo League; MM Kamruzzaman Kamrul, publicity secretary of Narail district Bangladesh Chhatra League; and Iqbal Hossain, president of Cox's Bazar district Bangabandhu Ain Chhatra Parishad Committee. Meanwhile, a Jubo League leader withdrew a case against Mahfuzur yesterday, a day after he filed it with the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate's court in Dhaka for the derogatory remarks.
