Destiny boss quizzed again

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) officials yesterday quizzed Destiny Group Chairman Rafiqul Amin for the fourth time in connection with various corruption allegations against officials of the so-called multi-level marketing company. The ACC officials questioned Amin, who is also the managing director of Destiny 2000, and five other officials of the Department of Cooperatives at the commission's office in the capital. Sources said Rafiqul Amin was interrogated regarding the financial statements of Destiny Tree Plantation project and Destiny 2000 Ltd. The five Department of Cooperatives officials were interrogated concerning the irregularities of Destiny Group employees, as they audited financial matters of Destiny Multipurpose Cooperative Society. The five officials are Joint Registrar Khandaker Sirajul Islam, sub registrars Mohammad Khairuzzaman and Bhabesh Chandra Mitra, and inspectors Sazzad Hossain and Mohammad Abdullah. Rafiqul Amin was quizzed yesterday as the Department of Cooperatives auditors found dissimilarities in the financial dealings of the MLM company, said ACC sources. Dissimilarities were also found in the statements and papers submitted by Destiny officials. The Department of Cooperatives officials were summoned to verify their audits, said sources. The ACC has been investigating Destiny Group officials after various allegations were brought against the company including illegal banking, transferring of money through corruption, and money laundering.
